Night Drive

The insight

The real pleasure of a car isn't the spec sheet — it's driving for no reason, alone, late at night.

The idea

A Golf glides through deserted 2am LA over Richard Burton reading Dylan Thomas — no features, no price, just longing — ending 'when was the last time you just went for a drive?'

The Stupid/Smart of it

Stupid: Make a car ad with zero product info — no performance, price, or features, just two minutes of vibe.

Smart: A car ad that says nothing about the car is surprising; reconnecting you to why you love driving is worth more than any spec (inevitable).

Why it works

Weakly ownable (any car could run mood), but the restraint and craft became a DDB/VW signature. Earned by execution.

Pure craft + a haunting question → a cult favourite among ad-makers; a D&AD Pencil.
