Real Men of Genius

The insight

Radio is where ads go to be ignored, and beer guys get sold clichés; make them laugh on their level instead.

The idea

A mock-heroic power ballad solemnly saluting life's trivial nobodies ('Mr. Really Really Really Loud Cell Phone Talker').

The Stupid/Smart of it

Stupid: A national beer campaign built on a fake power ballad about pointless men, on the medium everyone tunes out.

Smart: An epic anthem for a pointless man on ignored radio is surprising; the tonal mismatch is a perfect, endless comedy engine (inevitable).

Why it works

Weakly ownable as a device, but the sung-salute format became Bud Light's signature. Earned by repetition.

An infinitely-repeatable format (200+ spots) → the most-awarded radio campaign ever; Cannes Radio Grand Prix twice.
